Sneak peek at 2025 Trends list: cameras in more (new) places

No industry stands still, especially in technology. Video surveillance is a good example because constant developments across several fields are expanding its capabilities and improving customers’ experiences. Rapidly growing AI, improved optics, advances in networking, and cloud computing all play a role.

By themselves, these developments can seem abstract and incremental. You probably don’t often think about the exact processor generation or subgeneration in your phone or computer — never mind in your surveillance cameras. And even big leaps in performance can quickly become the status quo. Taken together, though, the trends we see emerging now will affect video surveillance for the foreseeable future in big ways.

For example here are just a few of the ways that smaller, rugged, and more networkable cameras could put video intelligence in (many!) more places:

Other industry trends we expect in 2025

But it’s not just that you’ll be able to see more places. You’ll be able to see more time (with low-light capabilities that present nighttime scenes with daytime clarity). You’ll also be able to focus on more of what actually matters with intelligent rejection of false alarms, thanks to constantly improving AI both in-camera and on the cloud.

One of the most important elements is that smarter cameras also mean drawing staffers’ attention to security incidents for a fast, intelligent response. Since most security camera footage is never seen by human eyes, the growth in camera numbers means it’s even more important to automatically put the right cameras in front of the personnel who can actually resolve incidents.
