Goodbye 2014 – Hello 2015

December 31, 2014 Hans Kahler

Happy New Year 2015It’s been a great year at Eagle Eye. So many good things have happened I don’t even know where to start. We’ve won some awards, added a lot of resellers, expanded our data centers, hired a bunch of people, released new versions of our Bridges and CMVRs – not to mention, we delivered tons of new features for our Security Camera VMS.

As the year draws to a close I was trying to summarize what it all means. I know that there’s really no way to put everything we’ve done into one blog post, but there is a video that might sum it up nicely. It’s probably not what you’re thinking. It’s just a simple video of a moose in Grand Lake Colorado. However, to record that simple video a lot of complex things had to take place in the background – and work flawlessly.  That’s where all of the research, engineering, development and testing pays off.

The setup for this video took about 5 minutes. I used an Eagle Eye Bridge 300, an Eagle Eye POE switch (SW05i) and an Axis P1354 (thanks Axis.) I plugged the camera into the switch, the switch into the bridge and the bridge into the Internet connection at the cabin. That’s all it took for the physical setup. I did have to log in to the Axis camera and flip the video over, but that’s about all of the setup – aside from zoom and focus.

I didn’t have to do any port forwarding, I didn’t have to get a static IP, just plug and play. I can now watch this camera 24×7 from a web browser, phone or tablet with just a user ID and password. Obviously we didn’t build this sophisticated platform just to watch wildlife. It’s used to secure businesses, help improve operational efficiency and generally provide awareness at locations around the globe. However, sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and take in the simple things in life.

Here’s to a great 2014 and an even better 2015 – Happy New Year!
