When your smartphone map app serves up multiple routes to get you where you want to go, you probably pick the fastest option. Because, like most, you want to get from Point A to Point B in the least amount of time. Now, Eagle Eye Networks is offering a shortcut of its own. A new Eagle Eye Cloud VMS feature, Media Shortcut enables users on the same local network as their VMS to receive both previews and live video directly from the bridge or CMVR to their computer.
By serving video directly from the appliance to the browser – and not sending it up to the cloud and back – the speed of both previews and live video loading is eight times faster, and the user experience that much better.
In addition to serving up faster, smoother video, Media Shortcut also saves on bandwidth. You still have to have an internet connection, and metadata still comes from the cloud, which includes any analytics and history browser timeline information, like notification indicators and motion regions.
Media Shortcut is extremely beneficial for end users, such as an express logistics company with 100 cameras at one warehouse. Local operators can quickly scan onsite cameras from their laptops, immediately identifying things like OSHA violations on the warehouse floor or suspicious deliveries at the facility gates. Another use case is the fast-food franchise owner in the restaurant back office. She can observe goings-on, such as point-of-sale transactions, live from her computer. Or consider the bank manager who can see and swiftly respond in real time to a robbery in his branch. These scenarios – and any other onsite viewing situations – are now exponentially faster, thus ensuring safer, more secure environments for workers, visitors, and customers.
Launching on November 16, Media Shortcut will automatically be turned on for existing Eagle Eye Cloud VMS users. If, for some reason, you need to physically enable the feature, go to bridge settings, then click “Advanced” in the top right of the window. Check the box that reads, “Media Shortcut Enabled.”
