Dean Drako, founder, president and CEO of Eagle Eye Networks, is set to give the keynote address at UC Berkeley’s Engineering Week tonight (March 10th, 2014)

Dean, a Berkeley grad, is going to share his insight and lessons learned from successfully building 6 companies, with the current crop of bright young minds.

When asked what drives him toward new ideas, he says “I’m a builder. I love building great products and having the satisfaction of knowing I created them. But I also love the challenge of building a business around those core offerings.

“To be successful, you need the right strategy and you need to execute well on that strategy. I focus on two things: the problem I’m solving, and the customer I’m serving. It’s hard to find the sweet spot. The only time you really know you’re getting it right is when you’re meeting the customer’s needs and they buy your product—so talk to the customer. This is easy in the beginning when you just have a few, but ironically, as you get better, this gets harder. The trick is to put a process around it and keep it going as the company grows.”
