Helping the Austin Police

8月 7, 2014 Hans Kahler

One of our employees was walking around the block when he saw an assault occurring in the alley behind our building.

We called the police, let them know what had been witnessed, and told them that we had video of the incident- as we have security cameras around our building. Two police officers arrived shortly afterwards to take a statement and to view/get the footage.

After watching the video, the police officers needed a copy of it for evidence.

While the Eagle Eye VMS allows for an easy download of any selected video clip, we decided instead to utilize our video stream sharing feature. This gives the owner of the account (in this case, us) the power to share a video stream with anyone-all that’s needed is an email address. The owner can choose which camera streams to share and revoke access at any time.

This is especially useful for a police investigations. We shared the video stream with the police department so that they could view the footage from not just the time of the incident, but before and after it as well. This way, they would be able to go back to the office, carefully review all the surrounding video themselves, and download all the necessary clips that they might need. No need to sift through hours of tape or have inconvenient and prolonged back and forth with our office to get the right video.

The police officers were excited by these capabilities. Us though? We’re just glad we were able to help.
