October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM)<\/a>, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA). President Barack Obama has even once again issued a presidential proclamation<\/a> declaring October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month.<\/p>\n

Beginning in 2004, NCSAM <\/a>has promoted diligence in the protection of both individuals and collective entities from online threats. It’s a collaborative effort between government and industry to help keep the world stay safe and secure in the digital age. The DHS and NCSA provide resources<\/a> as well as tips and best practices to help internet users stay safe online.<\/p>\n

Every week of the month has a different theme:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

With dangerous security breaches hitting major companies like Target and Home Depot dominating headlines, cyber security practices and knowledge have become mainstream. It’s not just large companies either- small businesses<\/a> have become a target of hackers as well.<\/p>\n

This week’s focus on Cyber Security for Small and Medium-Sized Business and Entrepreneurs<\/a> emphasizes the importance for all SMB to recognize any potential points of susceptibility in their security, including their video surveillance system. In a survey report<\/a> that Eagle Eye commissioned this year, we found that 69% of IT departments believed their existing video surveillance systems were vulnerable to a cyber attack, while 17% didn’t know.<\/p>\n

With the market for IP cameras expected to surpass that of analog cameras by the end of the year and VSaaS (Video Surveillance as a Service) on the rise<\/a>, cyber security is a very real and relevant issue within the video surveillance industry today.<\/p>\n
