2020 Roundup Blog Image-01-fi

When you buy an onsite system, it’s only as good as the day you purchased it. It’s kind of like driving a new car off the lot. It instantly depreciates. However, at Eagle Eye Networks, our technology doesn’t become obsolete over time … it only gets better. Consider it one of the many advantages of video surveillance in the cloud, because the cloud enables us to continuously deliver improvements. And, with our subscription model, you don’t have to wait for a technician to show up on site to upgrade or replace your old system; it’s automatically updated and new features are instantly available.

We’ve been continuously improving our offerings for seven years now, and this year was no exception. Here’s a look at some notable features launched in 2020:

Fisheye Dewarp

Fisheye cameras are a popular choice for businesses due to the various efficiencies and cost savings associated with them. The 360-degree image captured from a fisheye camera cuts down on the number of cameras a business needs to monitor a given area, which in turn reduces the power consumption, labor costs, and required maintenance.

In May, Eagle Eye Networks introduced its cloud-client fisheye dewarping solution, enabling you to capture the full 360-degree image from their fisheye camera and dewarp it right from your browser or mobile device without any plug-ins or licensing.

Media Shortcut

A new Eagle Eye Cloud VMS feature, Media Shortcut, was introduced last month. It enables users on the same local network as their video management system (VMS) to receive both live and recorded video directly from the bridge or CMVR to their computer.

By serving video directly from the appliance to the browser – and not sending it up to the cloud and back – bandwidth use is significantly reduced, making the user experience that much better.

Archiving

Archiving is a feature that enables you to save video clips for a longer period of time than your normal video retention duration. For example, if you typically store your video for 30 days, but you have an incident that you’d like to save and share, you no longer have to download it to your laptop or save it to a thumb drive. Eagle Eye will store it for up to a year beyond your regular retention.

Archiving also allows you to easily organize and optionally share via a secure link to anyone, inside or outside your organization, without requiring a user login. And the secure links can be revoked at any time.

Local Display Station

In addition to these software upgrades, we also introduced new hardware offerings in 2020, most notably, The Eagle Eye Local Display Station. The display station, which launched in September, provides video from multiple cameras at full resolution on a local monitor. It allows users to view 32 cameras on a standard monitor or TV and up to 164 cameras across multiple display pages – enabling users to observe everything happening.

Controlled and managed from the cloud, the Eagle Eye Local Display Station is available in two models, the DS100, which supports a single display, and the DS200, which supports two displays.

Premium Support

We’re really excited about this new offering. It’s not a software upgrade and it’s not a new piece of hardware, but a new service. And, one of the first of many to come in 2021 and beyond.

This month, Eagle Eye unveiled its Premium Support Subscription, designed to provide the highest level of support for customers with complex environments or who need mission-critical health monitoring. The new enhanced support subscription includes benefits such as 24×7 phone support for all standard and advanced features, Eagle Eye Health monitoring of bridges and cameras with proactive contact if anything is amiss, and dedicated support experts with ongoing context about a customer’s business.
